Wave Energy in Brittany (France)—Resource Assessment and WEC Performances

Refined numerical wave energy resource assessments are required to reduce uncertainties in the evaluation of available power and production. However, restrict computational cost, a great part hindcast simulations cover limited time range (below ten years) or rely on coarse spatial resolutions while routinely ignoring tide-induced modulations conditions. Complementing conducted North-West European shelf seas, we here exploited 27-year database (1994–2020) set up at resolution 200 m along coast France integrating effects tidal currents waves. This was three water depths from offshore nearshore (60, 40 20 m) around Brittany, one most energetic regions France. We investigated performances series thirteen state-of-the-art converters with respect installation depth range. Beyond confirming interest western Brittany exploitation, results exhibited first ranking between devices, thus promoting interests Oceantec waters (60 m), Wave Dragon intermediate (40 Oyster WaveStar C6 shallow (20 m).
